The 2015-2016 LEAD Athens session is about to begin, starting with a retreat July 17-19 in the North Georgia Mountains.
With 30 members in this year’s class, LEAD Athens, hosted by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and founded in 1982, is designed to develop effective leaders committed to building a vibrant community.
Teambuilding, problem solving and decision-making are part of the program, which also covers a range of community-based curricula, including economic development, health and human services, education and local and state government.
This year’s retreat will take members to the mountains for a weekend packed with teambuilding, wildwater rafting and plenty of learning.
LEAD members hail from a variety of industries from media, health care and education to government, manufacturing and finance.
“What LEAD members have in common goes beyond our respective fields,” said Jo Sullivan, senior vice president for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and the LEAD Athens liaison. “They all share a common goal of exceeding both their individual and collective potential.”
Sessions run Thursdays through March, and will cover the following topics:
|State Economic Development||August 13|
|Small Business and Industry||September 10|
|Non-Profits and Social Services||October 8|
|Health and Life Sciences||November 12|
