Clarke County Mentor Program Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Join us at Athens First United Methodist Church on January 20, 2016 for the Clarke County Mentor Program’s 25th Anniversary Breakfast from 7:30am to 9:00am. This year’s keynote speaker will be Lawrence Harris, author of “I See the Mentee in Me”. Mr. Harris is Director of College & Career Planning for the Clarke County School District and is developing The College Factory, a nonprofit committed to the building of a college-going culture. Help Make Room for Reading in our Community

The Family Literacy Partnership of Athens (FLiP) invites everyone to a fun, innovative event to learn about the many things happening in our community to promote literacy and Make Room for Reading. We are holding a silent auction of 10 book shelves painted by local artists – they would make terrific gifts for any book-lover in your life. Please stop by for light refreshments, to check out beautifully decked out book cases, and to chat with our partners. The Salvation Army Auxiliary Needs Your Help

Holiday season is once again here. We all have so much to be thankful for, but there are always those in our community who aren’t as lucky as the rest of us. The Salvation Army Auxiliary needs your help this holiday season with organizing and preparing gift bags for children and families in our community. Volunteers are needed to work in shifts of 1-2 hours, or more if you can donate more time, at our Toy Warehouse located in the Georgia Square Mall. Books for Keeps!

Books for Keeps is a local Athens initiative aimed at donating books to children and low-income families in grades Pre-K through 12. For 11 months of the year, BFK collects, inspects, sorts and boxes books, only to give them all away in May. Books for Keeps’ primary goal is to end the “summer slide,” the learning loss suffered by many children when they are away from school. Kevin Price Construction announces the construction of it’s new office facility to be located in the Parkway Technology Park on Daniels Bridge Rd. in Athens. The building will be an 18,000 sf. two-story building with KPC taking the top floor.
