Call for Nominations: 2016 ATHENA Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 ATHENA Award, presented annually to celebrate the accomplishments of female leaders in the Athens area. The ATHENA Award is presented annually to an individual who has been nominated for embodying the highest level of professional excellence in her business or profession, dedicating time and energy to better the quality of life for others in the community, and helping women reach their full potential. Become a Small Business Rock Star!

The Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Georgia Economic Developers Association is again planning to recognize small business owners of note across the state. Past winners include Athens-based TSAV, which was recognized for its work to fill a niche in the education marketplace not being served by its competitors, among other accolades. The Small Business Rock Stars program is accepting nominations until September 30. If you have fewer than 100 employees, are a Georgia-based, for-profit company and have been assisted by either your local or state economic development team, you’re eligible! Spend a night at the movies for the 2015 Mid-Year

Mid-Year is not only one of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraisers, it might also be our favorite. Each September, hundreds of Chamber members, friends from the community and local elected officials gather at this business casual event to give back to the business community and have a great time. There are no awards or speeches, just a night of fun. July Small Business Breakfast Club

On July 21, the Chamber hosted it’s July session for the Small Business Breakfast club. The session was led by Dr. Nita Matthews-Morgan and Josh Matthews-Morgan, whose training company Learn Your Brain shows entrepreneurs, business owners and high performers how to apply the most recent findings in brain science, positive psychology, and peak performance studies.
