Athens Welcome Center
280 E. Dougherty St., inside the Church-Waddell-Brumby House Museum
The Athens Welcome Center is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Sat., and from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Sun. Classic City Tours depart from the center at 2 p.m. daily (subject to availability). The Welcome Center offers information on attractions, accommodations, restaurants and shopping, brochures, maps and a gift shop.
UGA Visitors Center
Four Towers Building
Located in the Four Towers building on 405 College Station Rd., the University of Georgia Visitors Center is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Fri.; and select Saturdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The Visitors Center is closed on Sundays.
Clarke County School District
By Georgia law, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enter pre-K, 5 years old to enter kindergarten, and 6 years old to enter the first grade. In order to enroll/register new students in pre-K and kindergarten, parents need to present the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization form 3231 and proof of residence (mortgage or lease agreement). A picture ID of parent or guardian is also required for pre-K registration. To enroll/register for grades 1-5, parents need to present proof of residence, name and address of previous school attended (if applicable).
Georgia Dept. of Driver Services Customer Service Center #32

Residents must obtain a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days of moving to the area. Drivers with a valid out-of-state license do not have to take a driving or written test, but must take an eye exam. First-time drivers must take driving and written tests as well as the eye exam. A five-year license for driving a passenger car is $20; an 8-year license is $32; a learner’s permit is $10. Hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Tues.-Fri.; Sat. 8 a.m.-12 noon. Georgia recently put in place more stringent requirements for identification documentation needed to get a driver’s license; please visit www.dds.ga.gov to view the list of documents that the Department of Driver Services will accept as I.D.
Motor Vehicle Registration
New residents must purchase a Georgia license tag within 30 days of establishing new residency and after obtaining a Georgia license. The tag must be purchased in the tag/tax office of the county in which you reside.

Citizens of the U.S. who are at least 18 years of age, mentally sound, and not under conviction of a felony are eligible to vote. Voters can register at age 17½. Voters must register 30 days prior to the election in which they wish to vote. Registration sites include the Voter Registration Office, the driver’s license office and certain other government offices. Call for other locations.

Community Connection of Northeast Georgia

Serving as the coordinating agency for social services in the Northeast Georgia region, Community Connection supports residents and the organizations on which they depend through the operation of its three major programs: 24-hr. Information and Referral, Volunteer Coordination, and Nonprofit Development. The organization also hosts, as its major fundraiser, the annual Taste of Athens event, which features the finest in local food and art in a celebration of Athens’ culture.
