During the month of April, Athens has events taking place for all audiences: UGA’s International Street Festival, Classic City Brew Fest, UGA Athletic events, and the Athens Human Rights Festival! This week, some of our chamber members have not only made an impression on our local community, but they have also made an impression outside of it as well. Taqueria del Sol’s “Memphis Taco” is a candidate for an Atlanta Eats competition, “Elite Eats”. The Georgia United Credit Union has raised an astonishing amount of canned food that will be donated to nine counties in Georgia. UGA’s School of Public and International Affairs receives a high national ranking and lastly, Athens on Ice makes a record-breaking donation to local nonprofit organizations. Community News: Mid-March

As we all spring forward this week, big things are happening here in Athens. Georgia’s Senate passed Bill 859 which will allow people with carry permits to legally bring weapons on college campuses. Georgia’s Labor department reports Athens unemployment rate has slightly increased in the past month. UGA’s basketball team didn’t make the cut for the NCAA Tournament, but will play in the National Invitation Tournament.
